Folk remedies for nail fungus

When a fungal infection occurs on the nails, attention should be paid to their healing to prevent the disease from progressing and spreading to the sensitive skin of the hands or feet.

For treatment, you can use medicines for external or internal use, and to increase the effectiveness of manipulations, it is recommended to use folk remedies for nail fungus.

Treatment of toenail fungus with folk remedies

In case of infection of the sensitive surface of the skin of the hands or feet, or damage to the nail plate, treatment should be started immediately, as the initial stages of the fungus can be cured quickly without resorting to the use of drugs.

Bath with a decoction of herbs from the toenail fungus

There are three stages of mushroom development: initial, active and running. During all three stages, the girl can use folk remedies against nail fungus, as they have a disinfectant effect, ensuring the gradual elimination and destruction of pathogenic bacteria. However, with an active form of the fungus, drug treatment is prescribed, which includes two types of drugs:

  • External (creams, ointments, sprays);
  • Internal (tablet).

Regardless of what drugs you take to restore natural manicure, you need to accompany the treatment using folk recipes.

If you treat nail fungus with folk remedies, the most effective ones usually have three directions of effect:

  1. Prevents the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
  2. Destruction of microorganisms, which is associated with the destruction of their cell membrane.
  3. Normalization of the superficial microflora and restoration of its state.

As a standard, natural ingredients have a healing effect, therefore, simultaneously with the destruction of pathogenic bacteria, their use helps to moisturize and nourish the matrix.

What determines the effectiveness of the treatment

To improve the effectiveness of nail treatment, it is recommended to use folk recipes. However, they don't always lead to a positive result.

At the outset, please note that even when carrying out household technologies to restore the health of the coating, it is necessary to pay attention to contraindications. The main one is individual intolerance. If you are allergic to a component, its use in the fight against fungi will not lead to a good result.

In addition, the effect after manipulation depends on the initial state of the natural manicure. If a girl has an advanced stage of injury, which involves the appointment of internal and external drugs, home remedies will not work.

The result also depends on the type of fungus, since some pathogenic organisms lead to the appearance of inflammatory processes in the body, which can only be eliminated by taking antifungals.

How to properly organize the treatment process

To ensure rapid elimination of the fungus, attention should first be paid to the treatment regimen. It is advisable to consult with your doctor to choose the right medications for you, based on the type of fungus.

However, regardless of the form of damage, it is important to consider that treatment must be comprehensive. He shouldn't have a way to get rid of the fungus.

Healing bath for nail fungus

Several techniques are commonly used simultaneously:

  1. Preliminary preparation of the skin for handling by applying a steam bath.
  2. Application of external medicines (paints, ointments, serums).
  3. Use medicated nail wraps, lotions or masks.
  4. Using a file to remove the overgrown part of the free edge and sand the upper stratum corneum.

In addition, during the treatment, it is necessary to pay attention to the hygiene of the hands or feet, as it often leads to the formation of nail fungus.

To increase local immunity, speed up metabolism and eliminate fungus, you should apply essential oils to the cuticle, while applying ointments, do a light finger massage.

Folk remedies for nail fungus

In addition to medical treatment, it is recommended to influence the fungus using folk recipes. Their main advantage is that they are safe, so there are no standard side effects.

However, keep in mind that to prevent irritation or inflammation in the treated area, make sure there are no allergic reactions to the components you are using.

Iodine

Iodine is a natural antiseptic and should be used daily on the nails. When applied to the nail, the solution envelops it and gradually penetrates the matrix, ensuring the destruction of pathogenic bacteria and the normalization of the nail microflora.

It can be used in its pure form. To do this, apply a thin layer of the solution on the nail with a brush or cotton swab overnight and let it dry a little. In the morning, the color will become paler as most of the liquid is absorbed.

Iodine is often added to trays to enhance the effect of antifungal manipulation. For this, 5-7 drops per liter are added.

Hydrogen peroxide

In addition to iodine, hydrogen peroxide is also used as a disinfectant solution. It has a mild effect, so it is recommended to treat it not only on the nails, but also on the skin, distributing the medicine several times a day, as it is quickly absorbed.

You can use peroxide for a quick squeeze:

  1. Apply the liquid to the skin of the feet or hands.
  2. Wrap the area to be treated with a cotton cloth previously soaked in the solution.
  3. Cover the compress with a plastic bag or cling film.
  4. After 15 minutes, remove the auxiliary elements, wait until the solution is completely absorbed.

Since hydrogen peroxide is mild, you can use it several times a day. However, it is not recommended to leave it in the form of a compress overnight.

Potassium permanganate solution

It is not easy to get potassium permanganate now, due to its ban, but it is a good disinfectant that provides a quick stop to the reproduction of microorganisms on the surface.

Potassium permanganate is used, like iodine, as an additional component when performing steam baths. You need to add it a little so that the water is slightly pink.

You can prepare lotions that mix three ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of propolis;
  • 2 tablespoons of denatured alcohol
  • 3-4 drops of potassium permanganate.

The mixture is thoroughly mixed and distributed on the fungus-infected nails for 20-25 minutes.

Soda and propolis

The components can be used separately, as they have strong disinfectant properties, or in a single recipe.

To do this, they are mixed in equal proportions, applied to the damaged area of the skin or nails and wrapped with cling film on top. The compress lasts 15 minutes and is then washed off with cold water.

Soda for the treatment of nail fungus

Propolis is distributed separately on the nails at night, touching the area of the lateral ridges and cuticles, as it additionally has moisturizing and nourishing properties, increasing local immunity.

Herbs

Despite their availability and beneficial effects on the tissues, herbs are often used to eliminate fungi. The more herbs you mix, the more effective the solution will be.

Most pharmaceutical herbs can be used:

  • Calendula
  • Chamomile;
  • Celandine;
  • Propolis;
  • Burdock;
  • Lilac.

You can use them as a normal decoction. To do this, they are poured with boiling water and prepared for 20 minutes, then filtered. The cooled liquid is applied to a cotton swab, applied to the fingertips and fixed with an adhesive plaster for half an hour.

The use of essential oils

In addition to their moisturizing and nourishing effects, oils are also used to gradually break down the cell membrane of pathogenic bacteria, ensuring their death.

Different oils are used:

  • Eucalyptus;
  • Tea tree;
  • Propolis;
  • Celandine;
  • Rosemary;
  • Lavender.

You can also use common edible oils: butter, vegetable, olive. They will also be effective against microorganisms.

Bath with essential oils for fungal nails

It is recommended to apply them separately, spreading them on the nails in a thin layer overnight. You can wear gloves or cotton socks over it to avoid staining the bedding.

Tar soap

Soap contains tar, so it aggressively affects nail fungal infections.

You have to use soap in its pure form - for this you soap your feet or hands with it, until it creates a thick foam, then rinse. You can also make a compress, which involves applying a small amount of liquid soap to the nail and then sprinkling it with sea salt or soda. The fingertips should be bandaged and left in this state overnight.

Instead of tar soap, you can also use household soap, but it must have a concentration of the active ingredient of 72%.

Kombucha

Kombucha is often used when there is inflammation in the body or outside. It is safe and there is usually no allergic reaction to the component.

For a compress, you need to cut a thin slice of the ingredient - it should be visible a little, then apply it to the clean nail and fix it with adhesive plaster. Next, cotton gloves are put on the hands, socks on the legs, and the lotion is left in this position overnight.

You can use recipes that involve daily use of kombucha.

Folk recipes

In addition to the separate application of natural ingredients for baths or compresses, you can make homemade masks, ointments or serums. They take longer, but contribute to the creation of a strong antibacterial effect, thanks to which it is allowed to abandon the use of medicines.

Applications of Vinegar Essence

Typically, antifungal recipes use table vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or wine vinegar. However, when treating an advanced form of nail injury, vinegar essence can be used, which, when used for the first time, destroys some pathogenic microorganisms.

Four components must be mixed for the applique:

  • 3 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons of vodka (or denatured alcohol);
  • 2 egg whites;
  • A teaspoon of glycerin.

The components are thoroughly mixed, slightly cooled and applied to the nails and wrapped with gauze on top. After 15 minutes, the previous mixture dries, a second compress is applied.

The rest of the mixture can be stored in the refrigerator and the procedure is carried out a maximum of twice a week.

Ointment based on dimethyl esters of O-phthalic acid, glycerin and vinegar

This recipe also includes the use of vinegar essence, whose concentration is 70%. For this reason, the recipe is not recommended for use in the early stages of the fungal infection, as well as on the sensitive skin around the nails.

The ointment contains four components:

  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil;
  • 1 teaspoon of phthalic acid dimethyl ester;
  • Chicken egg or teaspoon of glycerin.

The components are well blended, it is recommended to beat them with a blender, then put them in a dark and cool place for a day. After that, the ointment is spread over the affected nails and wrapped in polyethylene for 20 minutes, it must first be partially rubbed into the epidermis.

Compress from a mixture of garlic and onion

The compress can also be used in the treatment of advanced lesions, as it involves mixing the main ingredients with alcohol, which has a strong antiseptic effect.

Apply medicated oil to the nails affected by the fungus

The recipe mixes 4 ingredients:

  • 3 cloves of garlic;
  • Half an onion;
  • A spoonful of 90% alcohol;
  • A glass of distilled water.

Grate the garlic and onion on a fine grater and then squeeze the juice with cheesecloth. Then the mass is mixed with alcohol and water. After preparation, you can store the product in a tightly closed container in the refrigerator.

Cotton swabs are soaked in liquid, then applied to the nail and fixed with adhesive plaster for 25-30 minutes.

Celandine decoction

It is recommended to use a mixture of herbs of the fungus, and celandine is one of the most effective types that provide restoration of the microflora of the nail.

For a decoction of celandine, pour boiling water in a ratio of 1: 5 for half an hour, then strain and cool. Cotton swabs are soaked in broth and applied to areas infected with the fungus for several hours or overnight.

You can use the recipe every day, as it is absolutely safe.

Copper sulphate ointment

Copper sulfate is a chemical used for cosmetic purposes to nourish the natural manicure and prevent the re-formation of fungus.

However, keep in mind that it is often not allowed to use it, since the plant is poisonous, so exceeding the dosage can lead to the destruction of the nails and the appearance of irritation on the skin.

Vitriol should be used with caution:

  1. Clean the surface in preparation for use.
  2. Apply the concentrate to the coating and wait for it to harden.
  3. Grate the onion on a fine grater and distribute it on the nails.
  4. Wrap cellophane around your fingertips and secure it.
  5. After 6-7 hours, wash off the solution.

Do not use vitriol more than 2 times a week to ensure the safety of its effects.

Baths with sea salt and essential oils

Before almost any antifungal treatment, it is recommended to take steam baths so that the applied agent penetrates the structure faster, leading to a positive result.

Steam bath for the treatment of toenail fungus

Auxiliary components can be added to baths to increase their effectiveness. Salt and oils are often used for this:

  1. Add a tablespoon of sea salt to a glass of boiling water and dissolve it.
  2. After the liquid has cooled to the optimum temperature, add 5-6 drops of essential oils (different types can be added).
  3. Soak your feet or hands in the solution for 20 minutes.
  4. After bathing, wipe the skin with dry towels, apply antifungal ointment.

Soaking is allowed every day to quickly get rid of the fungus.

Conclusions

To remove the fungus, doctors prescribe a standard drug treatment, which includes the use of ointments, creams and pills. However, some of the injuries can be eliminated with folk remedies, simultaneously increasing local immunity. However, beware of homemade solutions, as they also have health and dosage limitations.
